Satrurn
Saturn is… fine. like objectively, scientifically, yes it’s impressive. i’m not denying that. i just think it knows it gets too much attention.
the part of the solar system where planets stop having surfaces, storms last for centuries, and physics starts feeling a little less intuitive. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune aren’t just bigger they’re completely different kinds of worlds, made mostly of gas and ice, with extreme pressures, chaotic atmospheres, and interiors we can’t even fully understand.
and the thing is, they’re all weird in their own way. not just big planet weird, but something is slightly off weird. like the kind of planets that make you realize the solar system isn’t as simple as it looks from far away.

Jupiter is what happens when a planet decides to be too much in every possible way. it’s not just big it’s absurdly big. like, it could fit all the other planets inside it and still have room left, which honestly feels unnecessary. it’s basically a failed star, sitting there with all that mass, almost becoming something brighter but just… not quite making it.

okay i’m just going to say it Uranus is one of the best planets. yes, Pluto will always be my favorite i don’t care what anyone says. Uranus is very close 2.

Neptune feels distant in every possible way not just physically, but conceptually too. it sits at the edge of the solar system, getting barely any sunlight, living in what is basically a permanent, dim blue twilight. if you were there which you absolutely should not be btw, the Sun wouldn’t look like a warm, glowing sun it would just be an extremely bright star in a very cold sky.
technically, all four are giant planets and none of them have solid surfaces like Earth, so in a more basic or older way of explaining things, they all get grouped together as gas giants. it’s kind of a simplified label like, big, not rocky, mostly made of stuff that isn’t solid.
once you actually look closer, Uranus and Neptune are actually pretty different from Jupiter and Saturn.
Jupiter and Saturn are made mostly of hydrogen and helium like, overwhelmingly. they’re the true gas giants.
Uranus and Neptune, though, have a lot more heavier stuff like water, ammonia, methane, so they are ice-giants and honestly, i kind of like that, because it makes Uranus and Neptune feel less like smaller copies of Jupiter and more like their own weird, colder, slightly mysterious category. which, if you’ve been reading this… you know i’m very much in favor of.
