naturally, after thinking way too much about wormholes, my brain decided to spiral into quantum physics. which is honestly worse.
because at least wormholes feel big and dramatic and cosmic. quantum physics is happening everywhere, all the time, and it’s somehow even more unhinged.
like, particles don’t have definite positions until you measure them. they exist in this weird state of probabilities, like they’re undecided about reality. and then the second you observe them, they “choose” a state. which raises the very normal and not concerning question of… what even counts as observation??
and then there’s quantum entanglement, which i genuinely think sounds fake every time i say it out loud. two particles can become linked so that measuring one instantly affects the other, no matter how far apart they are. like distance just doesn’t matter anymore. which feels suspiciously similar to the whole “space is flexible” thing from wormholes, except now it’s happening on the tiniest scales possible.
and obviously, my brain immediately goes: what if these things are connected?
there are actual ideas (still very theoretical, don’t get too excited) suggesting that entanglement and spacetime geometry might be related. like the structure of spacetime itself could emerge from quantum connections. there’s even this concept—ER = EPR that basically hints that wormholes and entanglement (Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlations) could be two sides of the same thing.
which is the kind of sentence that sounds made up but isn’t.
so now instead of just thinking “wormholes are cool,” i’m stuck thinking “what if the fabric of reality is built out of quantum relationships that we barely understand,” and honestly i would like a refund.
i think that’s what gets me though. quantum physics doesn’t just describe reality it completely rewrites how reality works. things aren’t solid, certainty isn’t guaranteed, and everything is more connected than it should be.
so yeah, wormholes might be the dramatic, cinematic version of weird physics, but quantum mechanics is the quiet one in the background breaking everything.
and the fact that both of these are real areas of study??? i love it, but also… how am i supposed to sleep after this.
